The Surface Engineering Association sponsored Live Theatre 2 at Surface World Live 2017. Here we explore all of the speaker's topics, and presentations are available to download.
The Surface Engineering Association (SEA) had a successful exhibition at Surface World Live, with enquiries regarding the effects of Brexit, legislation and REACH at the forefront of discussion. The event was held at the NEC (Birmingham) on 22nd and 23rd March 2017.
The SEA co-sponsored the event, as well as exhibiting, which saw them play host to one of the venues live theatres. The theatre played host to a number of topical conferences across the two-day exhibition, with guest speakers from industry leading companies taking to the stage and tackling some tough subjects.
As could be expected, REACH was a key subject for discussion across the board. The SEA’s Chief Executive, Dave Elliott, spoke about “Regulatory Engagement and REACH”. His speech discussed topics including the SEA’s involvement in the development of this legislation, and also gave information regarding the companies that have applied for the authorisation thus far. He discussed the 49 applicants thus far, most of which are focussed on a company’s individual requirements, rather than the industry as a whole. To date, only one has been accepted, which is causing great concern across the industry.
Mr Elliott also introduced the “UK cross-sector REACH Group” and the “Cross-Industry initiative for better regulation in chemicals management” group, highlighting some of the important work that they are doing in the quest to make REACH as accessible as possible to European companies residing in the surface engineering sector, and the importance of membership to such a proactive trade association.
Other seminars included:
Shaun McLaughlin – Diphex – mitigating the risks of chemicals on site
