SEA Welcomes a new member!

A highly skilled workforce handles some of the most famous models ever made - regularly working on the bright work for vintage Rolls-Royces, Aston Martins, Ferraris and Jaguars to name a few. Needless to say, the owners of such vehicles demand the highest of standards, as director James Cholerton says: “It doesn’t matter what vehicle the component is off, everything is treated with the same care and attention to enable the best possible result.”

A much renowned company specialising in the re-plating of classic cars, Derby Plating Services, has joined the SEA. The company was founded in 1979 by the present director’s father and his business partner because they were passionate about classic cars. It was becoming increasing difficult to find the skills to restore many of the components and he saw a niche in the market. Now the services of Derby Plating are sought by classic car enthusiasts from far afield.

He says: “Most of our work comes through recommendation. We have very good customers,

many of whom we have worked closely with for a number of years. Each job is different and we are regularly working with rare irreplaceable components so there is no room for error… It’s labour intensive – everything is done by hand. We are a small company but are currently training up younger employees to pass on the vital skills and knowledge for the future.”

Mr Cholerton says that the firm joined the SEA to keep up to date with the ever changing legislation.
