BEP Surface Technologies

Our business has been based in Britain’s traditional industrial heartlands in the north west of England for 50 years. But it’s not our heritage that makes us unique. It’s our innovation and our ingenuity that help us stand out: we are a forward-thinking team at the leading edge of engineering. We combine skills in high quality plating utilising chrome, copper and nickel with unrivalled grinding and polishing capability. Increasingly we are the centre of excellence for all things plating, serving the defence, energy and packaging sectors.

We manufacture, refurbish, machine and coat rolls at a vast scale – dealing with the size, weight and shape that others don’t, while delivering finishes to the finest tolerances that others can’t. For the packaging, plastics, composite and fabric industries, we offer the standard of service that delivers a competitive edge. And, with such a wide range of capabilities under one roof, we have the tools to take on ever more complex, ever more challenging projects – working outside the boundaries of any one sector.

Crucially, we match our expertise with ethos. We look beyond the spec, beyond the here and now. We’re here to deliver more than a finished product – we’re here to engineer outcomes. Every project is another opportunity to excel, another chance to exceed expectations. It’s our chance to make a lasting impact. Visit us at www.bep-st.com

National HIPIMS Technology Centre

The National HIPIMS Technology Centre is one of a kind in the UK in its expertise and facilities. It delivers industrial research projects bringing a competitive advantage to businesses in the region, nationally and internationally.

High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HIPIMS) technology for coating deposition was upscaled for the first time at Sheffield Hallam University and is now marketed by industry worldwide.

HIPIMS coatings are unique in their density and adhesion to the substrate.  They are used in harsh environments to protect against high temperature oxidation, wear and corrosion such as aerospace and power generation gas turbines, automotive engine components, hydraulic parts, cutting tools as well as in more delicate long life environments such as biomedical implants. The high density of the films brings performance enhancements in semiconductor wafer packaging, photovoltaic cell layers (absorber, back and front contacts) and antibacterial treatment.
